Erik Nielsen
Wind Power Expert
Erik Nielsen grew up in Denmark watching wind power evolve from experimental technology to his country's dominant electricity source. After studying Mechanical Engineering at DTU and working for Vestas designing turbine components, Erik pursued his MBA from London Business School to transition into renewable energy finance. His engineering background gives him deep understanding of turbine technology, wind resource assessment, capacity factors, and the operational challenges of wind farms. Erik spent years in project finance structuring utility-scale wind deals before joining equity research to analyze wind turbine manufacturers and developers. He excels at evaluating technological improvements—larger rotors, taller towers, offshore innovations—and their impact on project economics. Erik was early to recognize offshore wind's enormous potential and correctly predicted that supply chain constraints would pressure turbine manufacturer margins. His analysis covers turbine OEMs like Vestas and Siemens Gamesa, offshore developers like Orsted, and the complex supply chain serving wind power. He also tracks how auction mechanisms and power purchase agreements impact project returns. Based in Copenhagen, Erik has front-row seats to wind energy leadership while analyzing this mature but still-growing renewable technology.
